AP TUTORING NYC
College-Level Mastery, Starting in High School
AP courses are some of the hardest classes in high school. They are hard for a reason: the content is genuinely college-level and the exams are built to challenge even strong students. I provide one-on-one AP tutoring in NYC that builds real understanding from the ground up so you do not just survive the course, you actually master it.
Why AP Classes Feel So Hard
AP is not just harder high school work. It is a fundamentally different level of thinking. Here are the real reasons students struggle and what I do about each one.
The Pace Is Relentless
AP teachers move fast because they have to cover a full college course in one school year. If you miss one concept, the next ten build on it and suddenly you are completely lost.
I identify gaps immediately and fill them before they become bigger problems. Every session we make sure the foundation is solid before moving forward.
Memorizing Without Understanding
Most students memorize formulas without understanding where they come from or why they work. AP exams are designed to catch exactly that. They ask application questions, not just recall.
I teach the concept and theory behind every formula so you understand the why. When you understand the why, you can apply it in any situation the exam throws at you.
No Immediate Feedback in Class
In a class of 30 students moving at AP speed, you rarely get the chance to check whether you actually understood something before moving on. Small misunderstandings pile up quietly.
After every concept, I give you an interactive quiz that is autograded with scores and full explanations. You get instant feedback on every problem so nothing slips through unnoticed.
The AP Exam Is Unlike the Class Tests
Your school teacher's tests and the actual College Board AP exam are very different in how they ask questions. Students who do well in class are often surprised by the format and rigor of the real exam.
Before every school exam and before the AP exam, I run exact real test prep using my own customized exam questions built to match the actual AP format and difficulty. You know exactly what to expect.
Free Response Is Brutal
AP exams have free response sections that require you to show full work, explain your reasoning, and write clearly under time pressure. Most students have never been trained to do this well.
I teach you the exact format and structure that AP graders are looking for. We practice free response extensively so you can write clearly, show work correctly, and earn full credit.
Taking Multiple AP Courses at Once
Many students take two or three AP courses simultaneously while keeping up with other classes, extracurriculars, and college applications. The cognitive load is enormous.
I help you prioritize and create a realistic study plan across all your AP courses. We focus on the highest-leverage topics for each exam and build efficiency so you do not burn out.
How I Teach AP Courses
Concept and Theory First
Every formula and method starts with the underlying concept. You understand where it comes from, why it works, and how it connects to everything else. No blind memorization.
Interactive Autograded Quizzes
After each concept, you get an interactive quiz with instant autograded scores and full explanations. You see exactly where you got things right and where you need more work.
Real Test Prep Before Every Exam
Before each school exam and the AP exam, I provide exact real test prep using my own customized exam questions that match the real AP format and rigor. No surprises on test day.

AP Tutoring FAQ
When should I start AP tutoring?
Ideally at the start of the school year so we build each unit correctly from the beginning. But I also work with students who start mid-year or need intensive exam-season prep. It is never too late to get the right foundation in place.
Do you help with both school tests and the AP exam?
Yes. I help with your ongoing school tests throughout the year, and I provide specific AP exam prep as the May exam approaches. Both matter and I cover both.
What if my AP teacher moves too fast?
That is one of the most common situations I handle. We go back, fill in the gaps, and rebuild the foundation correctly so the rest of the course makes sense. Speed in class does not have to mean confusion at home.
Are sessions online?
Yes. All sessions are online via Google Meet. I use a digital whiteboard for showing concepts, notes, and worked examples in real time. It is a fully interactive setup that works just as well as in-person.
What score should I aim for?
A 4 or 5 to get college credit at most schools. A 3 is passing. I set the target based on what your goal schools require and what you need to earn the credit you are working toward.
